1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using the buildpurdue website (buildpurdue.org), submitting any form (including but not limited to applications, event check-ins, email sign-ups, and contact forms), creating an account, or attending any buildpurdue event (including but not limited to Night Shift, workshops, cohort sessions, and co-hosted events), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use our website or participate in our programs.
2. Photography, Video, and Media Consent
2.1 General Event Media Consent
By attending any buildpurdue event, you acknowledge and agree that:
- buildpurdue and its authorized representatives may photograph, video record, and audio record buildpurdue events, including but not limited to Night Shift sessions, workshops, cohort meetings, networking events, and any co-hosted events.
- Your attendance at any buildpurdue event constitutes your consent to being photographed, video recorded, and audio recorded.
- buildpurdue is granted a perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide, non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, edit, modify, distribute, and display your likeness, image, voice, and statements captured at buildpurdue events in any media and for any purpose, including but not limited to: social media posts, website content, marketing materials, newsletters, promotional videos, and educational content.
- No prior approval from you is required before buildpurdue uses, publishes, or distributes such content.
- You will receive no compensation for the use of your likeness or content captured at buildpurdue events.
2.2 Cohort Member Media Consent
By being accepted into and participating in the buildpurdue cohort, you agree to the General Event Media Consent in Section 2.1 above, which applies to all cohort activities including but not limited to workshops, group sessions, presentations, and any other cohort-related events or activities.
2.3 Featured Content — Separate Release Required
If you are selected to be the primary subject of produced content (such as interviews, founder spotlights, podcast episodes, or video features), buildpurdue will obtain your separate written consent through a Content Release Form prior to recording. The terms of that release are governed by the Content Release Form and are in addition to (not a replacement for) the general media consent in this section.
2.4 Content Removal Requests
You may submit a request to have specific content featuring you removed by emailing buildp@purdue.edu with a description of the content and the reason for your request. buildpurdue will review all removal requests in good faith. However, the decision to remove, modify, or retain any content is at buildpurdue's sole discretion and is not guaranteed. buildpurdue reserves the right to deny removal requests for any reason, including but not limited to: content that has already been widely distributed, content that features multiple individuals, or content that is integral to buildpurdue's promotional or archival purposes.
3. User Accounts and Data
If you create an account on buildpurdue.org or submit information through any buildpurdue form, you agree that:
- You are responsible for providing accurate and truthful information.
- You will keep your account credentials (if applicable) secure and will not share them with others.
- buildpurdue may use the information you submit for program operations, communications, and any other purposes described in our Privacy Policy.
- buildpurdue reserves the right to suspend or remove accounts that contain false or misleading information or that violate these Terms.
4. Email Communications Consent
By providing your email address through any buildpurdue form, you consent to receiving both marketing emails (newsletters, event announcements, content updates) and transactional emails (application status, event confirmations, cohort communications) from buildpurdue.
You may unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link provided in each email or by contacting buildp@purdue.edu. Full details on our email practices are available in our Privacy Policy.
5. Intellectual Property
5.1 buildpurdue Content
All content created by or on behalf of buildpurdue, including but not limited to graphics, videos, photographs, written content, website design, logos, and branding materials, is the property of buildpurdue. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, or use buildpurdue content without prior written permission from buildpurdue.
5.2 User-Submitted Content
By submitting content to buildpurdue (including but not limited to application responses, check-in form data, and any other materials submitted through buildpurdue forms or communications), you grant buildpurdue a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use such content internally for program operations, evaluation, and improvement purposes. buildpurdue will not publicly publish your submitted application content without your consent.
6. Acceptable Use
When using the buildpurdue website or participating in buildpurdue programs and events, you agree not to:
- Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent information.
- Impersonate another person or entity.
- Use the website or any buildpurdue platform for any unlawful purpose.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the website, its servers, or any connected systems.
- Interfere with or disrupt the website or any buildpurdue event.
- Harass, threaten, or intimidate any buildpurdue team member, participant, or attendee.
buildpurdue reserves the right to remove any individual from its programs, events, or platforms who violates these terms.
7. Limitation of Liability
buildpurdue is a student organization at Purdue University. buildpurdue is not a professional service provider and does not guarantee any specific outcomes from participation in its programs, events, or workshops, including but not limited to securing funding, customers, or investment.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law:
- buildpurdue and its officers, members, advisors, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the website, participation in events, or involvement with buildpurdue programs.
- buildpurdue's total liability for any claim related to these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid to buildpurdue (if any) in connection with the specific activity giving rise to the claim.
- buildpurdue does not warrant that the website will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.
8. Age Requirement
By using the buildpurdue website, submitting any form, or attending any buildpurdue event, you represent that you are at least 18 years of age or that you have obtained the consent of a parent or legal guardian. If you are under 18 and do not have parental or guardian consent, you should not use our website or attend our events.
9. Changes to These Terms
buildpurdue reserves the right to modify these Terms of Service at any time. The updated terms will be posted on this page with a revised “Last Updated” date. Your continued use of the website, submission of forms, or attendance at buildpurdue events after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
10. Governing Law
These Terms of Service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Indiana, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
11. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
